To check the glowplug relay (GPR), measure the voltage drop across the GPR's large terminals. While the GPR is active (up to 1.5 to 2 minutes after the key is turned to Wait-to-Start) put your meter leads on the large terminals (one lead on one large terminal and the other lead on the other large terminal).

Good afternoon peeps,,, Been and had someone look at the DTC鈥檚 and managed to solve a few,, my next one is the glow plug relay location and if it even has had I suppose hahaha. apparently mine are not switching off even with engine running they showing 9v I think he said. just put your multimeter on between the large terminals in the relay holer (can unplug the insert to get to the contacts) and the terminal of the first gow plug. set a meeter to continuity or ohms.. then check between the relay holder and the fuse holder. this way will check to see if there is any damage to the wires.

19 posts 路 Joined 2016. #5 路 Dec 28, 2016. If the glow plugs had any fault what so ever the CEL would come on. The MAF sensor related DTC is most likely related to your aftermarket air filter system. Most times those systems contaminate the MAF element. With temperatures in the teens, I'd suspect fuel gelling.
Answer. There is no "control unit" on your Ford Focus that directly controls the glow plugs. The four glow plugs are connected by a single wire covered with a ribbon. This wire comes directly from the fuse and relay box that is between the battery and the air box. The R12 relay simply gives power to the glow plugs controlled by the engine
